Keyano College is receiving funds from the province to help fix up their facilities.

The government of Alberta announced on Wednesday they’re providing $3.2 million to help the post-secondary school with maintenance and repairs.

The work is expected to create around 18 jobs in the community.

Keyano President and CEO Dale Mountain says the funding comes at a very important time for the school.

“Our region was hit hard by the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by devastating overland flooding in April, with significant damage to Keyano College properties.”

“Economic stimulus is much needed in our region, and this project will help get Albertans back to work.”

Mountain adds many of the buildings were also commissioned as early as 1974 and are need of an upgrade.

Meanwhile, these funds are a part of the GoA’s recently announced $98 million investment to post-secondary institutions. They’re expecting this will help create over 530 full-time jobs across the province.

“With this funding, we’re protecting and improving the things that make a difference in the lives of Albertans, and we’re setting students up for success by ensuring they have access to first-rate facilities and the training they need to find a well-paying career,” added Demetrios Nicolaides, Minister of Advanced Education.
