Investigation Continues For Jasper Icefield Crash That Killed Three Individuals

An investigation is underway after an Ice Explorer rolled over in the Columbia Icefield around Jasper.

On Saturday, around 1 p.m., one of the vehicles tipped over killing three individuals and leaving several others with serious injuries.

In total, 27 people were in the Ice Explorer with many being airlifted to nearby hospitals.

The names of the deceased aren’t being released at this time.

Alberta RCMP don’t know what caused the rollover and are currently obtaining witness accounts and completing a mechanical inspection.

They’re currently working with Parks Canada, Search and Rescue, fire departments, and Alberta Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.

Highway 93 remains open at this time, however, people are asked to avoid the Icefield.
