Fort McKay will soon be getting a new fire hall.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held earlier this month where members of the RMWB, Fort McKay First Nation, and Fort McKay Mtis Nation launched the start of work on the facility.

“This new hall signifies the next step in fire protection, not just for the community of Fort McKay, but for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo,” said Ron Quintal, President of the Fort McKay Mtis Nation.

“It is so important that we put these shovels in the ground today. This is another stepping stone in creating the unity and infrastructure the community of Fort McKay needs.”

The new fire hall will include four apparatus bays, modern offices, a fitness room, asphalt parking stalls, and more. It will also be able to store equipment safely while providing ample room for training.

“This fire hall will be a symbol of strength and security for the community, and I am very excited to see this landmark project begin,” said Jody Butz, Regional Fire Chief.

“For years to come, the Fort McKay Fire Department will continue to proudly serve their community and the region from their future new home.”

Construction is slated to start later this month.
