Around 80 Per Cent of Rebuilds From Wildfire Complete

Around 80 per cent of the properties destroyed by the Horse River wildfire have been rebuilt.

This is a jump of nearly five per cent from early May as the RMWB has purchased several lots in Waterways.

These lots are no longer privately owned and won’t see any construction, resulting in the municipality checking them off the list.

This number is expected to rise even more as around 300 homes and buildings are in some stage of construction.

The municipality has said they don’t believe we will ever see a 100 per cent completion rate as some have chosen not to rebuild and others haven’t returned to the region.

In total, over 2,500 properties were destroyed in the blaze.

Abasand, Beacon Hill, and Stone Creek – three of the hardest hit areas from the fire – have led the way for the majority of the recovery.
