Wood Buffalo council meets this week where they’ll get more information around future mitigation plans in flood-impacted areas.

The results of a recent survey, which asked the public to share their thoughts on how the municipality should proceed in downtown, Waterways, Draper, Ptarmigan Court, and Taiga Nova Eco-Industrial Park, will be shared.

They are considering several options for each area including continuing with current efforts, restrictions on future development, land swaps with the municipality, and full or partial buyouts.

A final decision isn’t expected now, however, a special meeting is potentially scheduled to happen on July 28.

Rotary Golf Club

The Rotary Club of Fort McMurray is once again asking for funds from the municipality to finish their golf course.

They’re looking for $2.7 million to finish the last nine holes.

Back in January, council voted against a $3.5 million ask.

At the time, they cited the funds probably wouldn’t be enough to finish the work, noting they had already received funds for the entire course, and the fact they currently subsidize Miskanaw.

The Rotary Club argues two and a half golf courses aren’t enough to fill the service gap in Fort McMurray.

Fort McKay First Nation

The Fort McKay First Nation is also asking council to send a letter to Indigenous Services Canada in support of their attempt to add reserve land.

They have already received conditional approval from ISC to open negotiations with the RMWB to add 11 parcels of land.

The FMFN is looking for a letter of support and a commitment to start talks.
