Movie Night And Fireworks Planned For Canada Day, Spots Available Through Lottery

A few families will be getting a chance to take part in a movie night for Canada Day.

The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo is planning to hold a makeshift drive-in at MacDonald Island Park on June 30 and July 1.

“While our celebrations are going to look a little different this year, we took the opportunity to get creative and we are so pleased to be able to host a select group of families at the Island for a movie night,” said Kelsey Stefanizyn, Director of Business and Events at the RRC.

“It is a great opportunity for families to try something new and celebrate Canada Day safely.”

The event will also include fireworks on both nights with those not in attendance still able to view them from different parts of the community.

Instead of it being first come first serve, the RRC is holding an online lottery due to the expected interest and the COVID-19 measures.

The lottery will be held until June 25.
