‘Break The Silence’ Mental Health Campaign Happening in Fort McMurray

You’re being invited to take a walk and have a talk about mental health.

Some Other Solutions is hosting ‘Break the Silence’, a week long campaign focused on creating a safe space to talk about mental health.

The event started six years ago in Edmonton when a few friends wanted to honour the life of a friend whom they lost to suicide.

“When you see that you’re not the only one struggling, when you see that other people are equally struggling, it brings some validation to what you’re feeling,” said Rita Uzorchukwuamaka, SOS Health and Wellness Manager. “It helps people to reach out and want to talk about what they’re going through.”

While the event would usually gather participants in one place, due to COVID-19 restrictions, it has been moved online.

Folks are being asked to take a video while on a walk, talk about why they are walking and post the video on facebook tagging Some Other Solutions in their post.

The virtual event runs until Saturday with live zoom calls surrounding mental health happening throughout the week.
