MacDonald Island Park, Anzac Recreation Centre Starting Phased Reopening Next Week

MacDonald Island Park will start to reopen to the public next week.

The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo announced on Wednesday they will be reopen facilities across the region in a phased approach.

“During this time our team is focused on returning to operations safely and rolling out new plans as quickly as possible to support the guidelines provided to us by the Government of Alberta,” said Graig Walsh, RRC CEO.

“The safety, health and well-being of our staff and every single community member who walks through our doors is at the forefront of our relaunch and the plans being put into place.”

On June 19, the Legacy Dodge Fitness Centre and Indoor Running Track at MacDonald Island Park and the Fitness Centre & Christina River Enterprises Running Track at the Anzac Recreation Centre will be open.

On June 26, the Canadian Natural Arena #2, CNOOC Nexen Fieldhouses, Squash & Racquetball Courts, Indoor Turf Field House, High Performance Training Centre, Don Scott McMurray Law Office Badminton Centre, Legacy Dodge Field and SMS Equipment Stadium will be open at MacDonald Island.

The Field House at he Anzac Recreation Centre will also reopen on the 26th.

Syncrude Aquatic Centre is expected to open to the public on July 6, with a schedule for each amentity to be announced at a later date.

The Pepsi Climbing Wall, Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery, and the Anzac Recreation Centre Arena currently don’t have date for when they’ll reopen.

“The RRC will implement new measures and guidelines while balancing them with needs of our guests and their desire to resume regular recreational activities,” added Walsh.
