Islamic Centre Holds Food Hamper Drive To Help Those Affected By Flooding

Residents affected by the flooding in Fort McMurray have another place to pick up hampers of food.

Markaz ul Islam, the Islamic Centre of Fort McMurray put together a food hamper drive to support residents.

“We’re trying to help everyone who was affected first, so if we have anything left over, come by,” Said Billy Jomha, one of the volunteers.

“There’s also 100 boxes of food for the Food Bank, 2 pallets of water and 2 pallets of diapers”

Food and water will continue to be handed out of the Islamic Centre until they run out.

The WBFB is currently providing 100 weekly hampers per day at two locations – one in Gregoire at Golosky Landing and one in Thickwood at the Fort City Church.

They are currently running on a first come first serve basis, with a tracking system to ensure each household can only access these services once per week.

More information can be found on the Food Bank’s website.
