Sustainival Canceling Stop in Fort McMurray Due To COVID-19

The world’s first green carnival won’t be returning to Fort McMurray in 2020.

Sustainival is canceling its stops in Fort McMurray and Edmonton this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“While we are disappointed to not be able to host our 9th annual Sustainival festivals in Edmonton and Fort McMurray, we know this is the right decision for our communities and we support the ongoing efforts to control the spread of COVID-19,” said Odette Hutchings,
Executive Director of Sustainival, in a release.

The festival had made its way to the community over the past eight years. It had included several rides, games, and other attractions run on renewable energy sources including biofuel and solar power.

“We look forward to the future when we are once again able to safely bring our unique brand of sustainability education to Albertans,” added Hutchings.

At this time, there’s no information on whether Sustainival will be back in 2021.
