Red Cross Providing $600 Payments For Households Impacted by Flood

The Canadian Red Cross is providing $600 payments to households impacted by the flood.

Starting Friday, those who registered with the organization will have these funds e-transferred into their account.

This payment is different from the one the provincial government is providing to each individual who had to evacuate.

Jenn McManus, Vice President of the Canadian Red Cross for Alberta and Northwest Territories, says they have other options for those who may have trouble getting the payment.

“Those who may still need to validate their ID or do not have access to electronic banking services will receive a phone call over the next few days from the Canadian Red Cross to come to the Franklin Avenue office in Fort McMurray to do an identification validation.”

The Red Cross is also warning residents about potential scams.

Individuals are going door-to-door to speak with residents, texting individuals, and asking for banking information.

“If we do not give a registration number please do not give out personal information for your own protection,” added McManus.

Those who are still concerned can call the Red Cross at 1-800-863-6582.
