Province Looking At Three Scenarios For Start of 2020-21 School Year

No decisions have been made yet on how the next school year will look like to start in September.

Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Education, announced on Wednesay the province is looking at three scenarios: normal operations, schools partially reopening, or at-home learning continues.

“The health and safety of students, teachers, staff, families and the broader community are paramount in these discussions,” said Jason Schilling, President of the Alberta Teachers’ Association. ”

Over 2,000 teachers recent took part in a survey about what they believe should happen to start the next school year. The province is also planning to gather more input from ATA teacher representatives before a decision is made.

If at home learning continues, students would be able to use the 60,000 devices the provincial government has handed out. This includes laptops, Chromebooks, tablets and iPads.

“I look forward to school returning when the time is right and health restrictions allow for it,” added LaGrange.
