There are no additional cases of COVID-19 in the RMWB.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Tuesday 154 new cases across the province – raising the total to 4,850.

There continues to be 15 active cases in Fort McMurray with none in the rural area.

There’s no additional information on these individuals.

Five people in Fort McMurray and two in the rural area have recovered from the virus.

Across the province, five more people have passed away from COVID-19 – putting the death toll at 80.

None of the deaths have been in the RMWB.

Kearl Lake

The number of COVID-19 cases linked to Imperial Oil’s Kearl Lake site, north of Fort McMurray, is continuing to rise.

A company spokesperson says 27 individuals are currently in quarantine on-site.

Another 37 are self-isolating off-site.

Each of these individuals were tested after they left the oilsands.

New COVID-19 Projections

The province is also releasing new projections for the virus.

They’ve now introduced a ‘low’ scenario which estimates just under 300 people will need to be hospitalized, 95 of which having to be treated in the ICU.

The GoA is also updating it’s ‘probable’ scenario which suggests 596 people in Alberta will require hospitalization, with 190 requiring critical care when the virus hits it’s peak.

“The data show us that our efforts to lower the peak of the virus are working, but we must remain vigilant,” said Premier Jason Kenney, in a release.

“It is essential Albertans continue to exercise common sense and follow public health guidance so we can get the economy moving again as quickly as possible.”

These latest projections still have the virus peaking by late-May.
