The number of cases linked to Imperial Oil’s Kearl Lake site, north of Fort McMurray, is increasing.

A company spokesperson says 23 individuals have tested positive – the majority being off-site.

Over the weekend, four individuals were self-isolating at the oilsands, however, that’s now been lowered to three.

Those who are self-isolating at home were tested after they had left the site.

Imperial is now testing employees on-site, which started on Monday, with help from Alberta Health Services.

Workers will get tested, with or without symptoms, however, it’s entirely voluntary.

The company is recommending to all that they get the test as the virus can be asymptomatic at times.

Around 1,900 are still working at the oilsands.

Those on-site who test positive will immediately be self-isolated in one of the quarantine sections they’ve set up.

Meanwhile, the province is also asking all those who were at site prior to April 16 to self-isolate for 14 days from when they left the site.
