Twelve individuals employed at Imperial Oil’s Kearl Lake have tested positive for COVID-19.

The oil company released a statement on Thursday noting two are in quarantine at the site, while the other 10 are currently off-site.

They currently haven’t released the location of these individuals.

The province announced the outbreak on Wednesday after three workers had tested positive. At the time, just one was in self-isolation on site.

“We have completed contact tracing for all of these individuals and have asked additional members of our workforce to self-isolate while further testing is underway,” said the company’s statement.

“We are committed to safeguarding the safety and health of our workforce and we are in contact with those who have tested positive to ensure they are supported. ”

Imperial says they remain in contact with Alberta Health Services.

Meanwhile, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Thursday 162 new cases across the province – raising the total to 2,158.

However, they don’t have additional information, including location, of these cases due to a power outage at the testing laboratory.

As of April 14, there were three active cases in Fort McMurray and two in the rural areas.

Also, two more people have died from the virus in the province, raising the death toll to 50.

One was a man in his 70’s from the Calgary-zone, while the other was a woman in her 80’s from the north zone.
