Two more people in Fort McMurray have contracted COVID-19.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Monday 81 new cases of the virus across the province, raising the total to 1,732.

No more information about these local cases is known at this time.

Fort McMurray has now had six confirmed cases of the virus, however, the first four have already recovered. There are also two active cases in the rural area.

The north zone, which includes the RMWB, now has 105 cases.

Meanwhile, two more people have died from the virus. This increases the province’s death toll to 46.

Both deaths were in the Calgary zone with one of the individuals living in a continuing care facility.

Also, the province says 254 of the province’s cases are believed to be from community transmission, while 877 individuals have already recovered.

Moving forward, the province is changing its testing protocol.

Anyone who has symptoms, such as a fever, cough, sore throat, and runny nose, will be now be tested.
