Feds Providing $100M For Food Banks During COVID-19 Pandemic

The federal government is providing funds to help Food Banks during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Friday they’re providing $100 million to help these organizations buy and deliver items to those in need.

“The work being done by Food Banks and their volunteers is essential, so there’s no question that they need more support during this crisis,” said Trudeau.

Locally, the Wood Buffalo Food Bank has had trouble filling their hampers as certain items have been hard to come by in grocery stores. This includes meat and dairy products.

“This money will help ensure these organizations can buy and deliver food to those who need it the most,” added Trudeau.

The Salvation Army, Breakfast Club of Canada, and other groups who are helping feed the most vulnerable are also eligible for this funding.
