Municipality Deferring Utility Payments, Suspending Plastic Bag Ban

You’re getting the opportunity to defer your utility payments.

Wood Buffalo council approved on Tuesday deferring these fees until July and waiving penalties for outstanding balances up to August to help residents struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic.

These fees include the distribution, collection, and treatment of solid waste, water, and sanitary sewage.

The municipality will continue to send out invoices and statements, but won’t be charging penalties if payment isn’t received before July.

The deferral applies to both residential and commercial services.

Single-Use Plastic Bags

Council is temporarily suspending the restriction on plastic bags during the coronavirus pandemic.

This means businesses can now provide these single-use bags to their customers.

Shoppers can continue to use reusable bags, however, they’re encouraged to wash them after each use to help prevent the spread of the virus.
