The municipality is closing all parks across the region.

The RMWB announced this new measure to help mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19.

This will impact playgrounds, ball diamonds, basketball courts, community gardens, cricket pitches, dog parks, gazebos, the Lions Park skating trail, outdoor rinks, picnic areas, soccer fields, football fields, rugby fields, running tracks, skateboard parks, spray parks, tennis courts, and volleyball courts.

“I understand that these are aggressive steps to be taking, but by putting these precautionary measures in place now, we will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect our community,” said Mayor Don Scott, in a release.

“Everyone has a role to play and it’s important that residents respect these closures, follow public health recommendations and continue to work together.”

Residents may continue using walkways in the areas, however, using park amenities is restricted. Municipal trails can also continue to be used.

Pet owners can still walk their dogs on these routes, but they must be on a leash at all times.

Signage will be set up to clarify these changes.
