Syncrude Fire Temporarily Shuts Down Processing Unit

A section of Syncrude’s site is offline after a fire Sunday night.

The blaze broke out in one of the company’s hydroprocessing units.

There were no injuries as no one was in the building at the time of the fire.

An investigation is being done to figure out the cause.

The company has also remained in touch with regulatory agencies over the blaze.

Syncrude Spokesperson Will Gibson wouldn’t discuss potential impacts to production, rather re-directing the inquires to their Joint Venture Partners which includes Suncor Energy and Imperial Oil.

He adds there is currently no timeline on when the unit will be back up and running.
