Controlled burns are taking place in the Waterways area.

Regional Emergency Services will be clearing up potential fuel for wildfires which has been accumulating over the winter.

Residents may see smoke when these burns are active.

Residents with concerns are asked to avoid calling 9-1-1 and instead use the Pulse Line at 780-743-7000.

Meanwhile, Alberta’s wildfire season gets underway on March 1st.

During the last season, there were 80 fires that burned over 50,000 hectares. Around 36 per cent of the fires were caused by humans.

In 2018, there were more blazes with 107, however, they only covered around 3,300 hectares.
