Three Fort McMurray Residents Dead After Vehicle Collision Near Grassland

A car accident near Grassland is claiming the lives of three Fort McMurray residents.

Boyle RCMP responded to a three-vehicle collision on Highway 55 on Tuesday around 10:30 a.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a southbound car attempted to pass a vehicle and collided with a semi-tractor heading northbound.

A separate collision then occurred with a southbound semi-tractor.

Three adults in the car died at the scene while an additional passenger and the driver of the semi-tractor were taken to hospital before being air-lifted to Edmonton with serious life-threatening injuries.

The Mounties believe speed and road conditions were the main reason for the crash.

They note that no charges will be laid. Boyle RCMP along with an RCMP Collision Analyst are continuing to investigate.

The names of the deceased are not being released.
