Woman With Ties To Wood Buffalo Named One of Canada’s Most Influential Women

A woman with ties to Fort Chipewyan is being named one of Canada’s most influential women.

Teara Fraser, the CEO and Founder of Iskwew Air, was named by Women of Influence as one of the Top 25 women across the country.

She was chosen for her leadership and strive to launch her own airline.

Joining Fraser among the list is tennis superstar Bianca Andreescu, golf star Brooke Henderson, and singer Jann Arden.

“It makes my heart sing to be seen alongside such brave and remarkable changemakers. All of them,” said Fraser, in a release.

“It is such an honour to share a recognition with the awe-inspiring sacred water protector Autumn Peltier – she is one of my role models.”

She launched Iskwew Air in 2019 in British Columbia, becoming the first Indigenous woman in Canada to do so.

Fraser’s family is from Fort Chipewyan and her journey’s to the northern hamlet played a big part in her dream of launching the airline.

In November, she was also named by Women’s Executive Network as one of Canada’s most powerful women.

Meanwhile, Fraser will be honoured along with the other 24 women in Toronto on March 3, 2020.
