Fort McMurray #468 First Nation Endorsing Frontier Oilsands Project

Teck Resources’ Frontier Project is receiving support from another local Indigenous group.

The Fort McMurray #468 First Nation is backing the project following in the footsteps of the McMurray Mtis and the Fort McKay Mtis who announced their public support back in December.

FMFN Chief Ron Kreutzer says Frontier will greatly help his First Nation.

“We want Canada to know this opportunity provides financial stability and economic prosperity for several generations of our members,” he added.

“We are proud to continue serving as stewards of the environment working with local Industry, including Teck.”

Kreutzer also noted Teck has consulted with them to develop specific and measurable impact mitigation measures and accommodations.

The highly-debated oilsands would be located around 110 km north of Fort McMurray and would produce around 260,000 barrels of oil per day.

It’s expected to create around 7,000 jobs during construction and another 2,500 during operations.

The federal government is currently reviewing the project before deciding if it will move forward.
