Oil Barons Focusing On The Present With Playoffs Looming

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons enter their final stretch of the season this month.

With six games remaining on the schedule, the MOB look to end the campaign on a high note as they get set for their final road trip of the season.

Head Coach Gord Thibodeau tells Mix News with the playoffs looming – this weekend will be a chance to test out their endurance.

“The biggest thing is to get practising and working on systems, working on new things for playoff time. So, it’s a good weekend for us, a great test with three games in two-and-a-half days and it’s difficult for any team that’s travelling but we look at it as a great challenge.”

With only eight games under his belt since his return behind the MOB bench, Thibodeau says he’s starting to feel comfortable again.

While it’s been a forgettable year, the team currently holds a playoff spot in their pocket as they enter their final three-game weekend.

Thibodeau feels confident the team will surprise some people, come playoff time.

“We understand it’s a tall task based on our position. Sometimes, looking forward can be daunting but all we can ask for is the effort and they’ve been giving us that. So, we’re pleased with the direction we’re headed but there’s still lots of work to do.”

The Barons are in Calgary on Thursday to take on the basement-dwelling Canucks.

Puck drop for that contest is after 7 p.m.
