Province Stating Risk of Coronavirus Low Across Alberta

No additional measures are being taken by the province against the novel coronavirus at this time.

Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw met with reporters on Thursday where she stated the risk across the province is low at this time.

The pneumonia outbreak was first reported in China on December 31st, 2019.

There have been no cases in the province, however, there have been two in Ontario.

“We are working closely with the Public Health Agency of Canada and our provincial partners, and protocols are in place to actively monitor for, detect and respond to potential cases,” said Hinshaw.

“We will continue testing for the novel-coronavirus, even in cases when the patient’s history suggests the likelihood of exposure is low. ”

Hinshaw notes that people who start experiencing respiratory infections are more likely dealing with influenza and should visit a doctor.
