Council Set To Discuss Possible Funding For Rotary Club, Supporting Calls To Action To The Federal Government

Wood Buffalo council meets this week where they’ll discuss providing funds to the Rotary Club of Fort McMurray.

The organization is seeking $3 million to help complete its 18-hole golf course

So far, they’ve only been able to open nine holes after receiving around $6.2 million from the municipality in 2015.

The Rotary Club originally asked for the funds during the 2020 budget deliberations, however, it was deferred so administration could conduct a more in-depth review.

The group is also looking for a grant of nearly $500,000 to help them operate in 2020.

Administration is providing council with three options to choose from: approve the total ask, approve just the 2020 grant, or reject the application.

Meanwhile, council will also discuss supporting Strathcona County in their attempt to repeal or amend Bills C-48 and C-69.

The county has reached out to the RMWB stating the federal government has an opportunity to provide leadership that will benefit all of Canada, including creating potential development projects.

One such project would be a utility corridor that would span from coast to coast to coast.

Council will discuss this and other topics when they meet at their temporary council chambers at the Syncrude Athletic Park Clubhouse at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
