Load Limit Increases To 15,000 Kilograms On Fort Chipewyan Winter Road

The load limit has increased for the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road.

The municipality announced Thursday that the limit has been increased to 15,000 kg and under beginning earlier this morning.

If you have a vehicle weighing more you’re asked to stay off the road until limits increase.

Vehicles weighing more than that amount could damage the road, causing safety hazards, or delays in reaching heavier load limits once the ice thickens.

You’re also being reminded to drive to conditions and follow all posted signage to avoid putting yourself and others at risk of a serious incident.

When passing workers or equipment, be sure to reduce your speed to 30 km/hour.

There are no regular services like road patrol, gas stations of cell phone coverage, so, always be prepared for emergencies.

Load limits are expected to increase as work continues and the ice thickens at river crossings.

All changes to the load limits will be announced by the RMWB.
