The Wood Buffalo Regional Library is calling on all poets to take part in its Words In Motion program.

Writers from across the region are being asked to submit their best work to the library to be considered for this year’s Words In Motion display.

There are three categories for submissions – the public, high school students and elementary school students.

Rebecca Latimer is a Community Services Associate at the library, and she tells Mix News the program is a great way to promote creative writing.

“The goal is to encourage literacy and appreciation for poetry. I’m a writer myself. I think storytelling is so ingrained in human nature and it’s definitely something we should encourage and celebrate.”

Participants are encouraged to submit their best work to the library by January 27.

Latimer says poem selection will be based on originality, technique and imagination.

“We select around 50 poems that will be published in a little booklet and put on display in the library. So, it’s a good way to gain exposure and get your poetry out into the community.”

Authors of the selected works will be invited to participate at a celebration event at the library on April 15.
