Rebuild Passes Halfway Mark, Nearly 1,600 Properties Finished

The rebuild is officially over the halfway mark.

According to the RMWB, as of December 13, 1,558 rebuilds have been completed.

This represents over 60 per cent of the properties destroyed in the Horse River wildfire.

Over 2,500 structures were lost in the 2016 blaze.

Abasand, Beacon Hill, and Stone Creek, three of the hardest hit neighbourhoods, have led the way for much of the recovery – in terms of rebuilds.

This number could potentially jump much higher in the coming months as nearly 75 per cent of the destroyed properties have had their insulation inspected or scheduled to be inspected, which means crews are working on the interior designs.

Meanwhile, 2,161 properties have received their building permits by the municipality.
