Teck Resources’ proposed Frontier project is being backed by another Indigenous group.

The Fort McKay Mtis announced on Wednesday they are endorsing the mega-oilsands.

This comes after the McMurray Mtis reaffirmed their support for the project last week.

In a release, McKay Mtis President Ron Quintal says they are confident in Teck’s ability to balance the economy and the environment.

“We have found Teck to be authentically committed to the vision of development that Fort McKay shares, namely of prudent environmental stewardship and shared community benefit. We look forward to working with Teck as this project moves forward and injects new investment and life into the lifeblood of Alberta’s, and Canada’s economy.”

The highly-debated oilsands would be located around 110 km north of Fort McMurray and would produce around 260,000 barrels of oil per day.

It’s expected to create around 7,000 jobs during construction and another 2,500 during operations.

The project is currently being reviewed by the federal government after receiving the green light from the government of Alberta and a Joint Review Panel.

“We strongly endorse this project and are pleased to share the reasons for our endorsement with federal and provincial regulators,” added Quintal.

There’s still no exact timeline on the when the government of Canada will make a decision regarding the project.
