Increase For Multiple Municipal Fees Coming Into Effect on January 1

The municipality is reminding residents fees for certain municipal services will be rising in a couple of weeks.

On January 1, 2020, services like utility rates, transit, landfill disposal, and permits will see changes to their prices.

On average, the services are seeing a 17 per cent increase.

Wood Buffalo council approved the increase back in October, stating the previously low rates were no longer feasible.

This was just the second time these rates had been increased in the past 10 years after they had been raised back in 2017.

The costs for certain recreational activities will be increased on July 1, 2020, as the municipality didn’t want to impact the current winter season.

The RMWB notes, even with the 17 per cent rise, the fees are still below the provincial average.

Residents can find more information, including what services will be impacted, by visiting the RMWB’s website.
