Suncor Applying To Increase Production Limit At Future Oilsands

Suncor Energy is looking to increase the production at a site south of Fort McMurray.

The Alberta Energy Regulator received an amended application from the oil company on December 6 for their Meadow Creek East Project.

The project was approved to produce 80,000 barrels of oil per day, however, Suncor is looking to increase their daily output to 88,000.

As part of the request, they’re also asking to increase the sulphur dioxide emissions limit from 1.5 tonne/d to 1.98 tonne/d.

Despite these proposed changes, Suncor says the life of the site will remain between 25-40 years.

Construction could potentially start in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Meanwhile, this project is one of two independent sites Suncor is currently looking to develop.

The second is the Meadow Creek West Project which is projected to produce around 40,000 bbls/d with construction starting in 2022.
