Syncrude Donates $90K To Food Bank, Annual Food Drive Underway

The Wood Buffalo Food Bank is starting their 2019 Syncrude Food Drive $90,000 ahead.

The oil company kicked off the annual initiative with the donation which will be used to ensure families in need can receive food throughout the holiday’s and in 2020.

The Food Bank is hoping to see an increase from last year’s totals which saw them bring in $276,000 and over 75,000 pounds of food.

“The Wood Buffalo Food Bank is certainly a just cause and the humanity shared is so wonderful,” said James Morell, Syncrude Employee, in a release.

“It is not easy to ask for help but I am so happy that it is there for those who need it.”

The three-day food drive starts on Friday and goes until Sunday.

Trucks will be stationed at various stores across Wood Buffalo from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Funds and food raised through the event are expected to account for 30 per cent of their annual operating budget and food stocks.

People can still sign up to be a volunteer by visiting the Wood Buffalo Volunteers website.

“With your help, families will get the support they need this holiday season and beyond,” added Doreen Cole, Syncrude Managing Director.

Syncrude has donated over $1 million towards the Food Drive since joining as a partner.
