Lowe’s Canada Closing 34 Stores Nationwide – Fort McMurray’s RONA Unaffected

The RONA in Fort McMurray won’t be affected by the company’s decision to close 34 stores nationwide.

On Wednesday, Lowe’s Canada announced their decision to close the doors of its underperforming stores – following a strategic review of its operations.

In a release, interim President of Lowe’s Canada Tony Cioffi says closing the underperforming stores is necessary to ensure the company’s long-term stability.

“We are taking decisive action to build a healthy business which will provide us with the flexibility to reinvest in our future growth. This includes having a clear strategy for our banners, built on the strength of our Lowe’s, RONA and Reno-Depot brands.”

Cioffi notes this also means investing in their omnichannel and supply chain capabilities, web platforms and existing corporate stores and affiliated dealer network.

“Our objective continues to be providing our Canadian customers with the right products and the best service and value across every channel, for the long term.”

Six Alberta stores will be affected by the move.

The company says employees affected by the changes will be supported throughout the transition.
