Canadian Natural Resources is looking to expand one of their sites north of Fort McMurray.

The Calgary-based company is applying to the Alberta Energy Regulator to integrate the Horizon South mine, previously known as the Joslyn north mine, with their main Horizon site.

CNRL purchased 100 per cent of working interest in the project last year.

The company had been approved to construct a processing plant, external tailings facility, and an end-pit lake for the site, however, they’ve now decided to use the facilities at their Horizon site for the project.

This decision is expected to help decrease the emissions and footprint by Horizon South.

People who have a concern with the potential integrated project can file a Statement of Concern with the AER by 4 p.m. on December 18.

If approved, site preparation would start in November 2020 with mining starting up around July 2022.
