Salvation Army Of Fort McMurray Kick Off 2019 Christmas Kettle Campaign

The Salvation Army of Fort McMurray has launched its annual Christmas Kettle Campaign.

The organization celebrated the kickoff of the campaign on Monday, announcing a goal of $200,000 to help families and individuals in need.

Speaking to reporters at the event, Major Stephen Hibbs says they’re very confident they’ll meet this year’s goal.

“We have a great city and I think they know the work of the Salvation Army and what we do, and the impact these funds will have when they go back into the community.”

While last year’s campaign initially fell short of its goal – at $185,000, Hibbs says a late donation helped them bring their total to $203,000.

Hibbs says without the community’s help – they wouldn’t be able to accomplish all that they do.

“At the end of the day last year, a contractor stepped up and said they would cover our deficit. So, they provided us with around $18,000 and we wound up being over our goal by around $3,000.”

To donate, you can find Christmas Kettle’s located at businesses all through the town.

To volunteer, you’re encouraged to contact the Salvation Army.
