A Fort Chipewyan man is facing aggravated assault charges following an incident in the rural hamlet.

Fort Chipewyan RCMP responded to a stabbing at a residence during the early morning of November 7, at approximately 1:07 a.m.

The Mounties say they were en-route to the residence and located a male victim with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The victim was transported to Fort McMurray via Medi-Vac and then transported to an Edmonton hospital.

As a result, police have charged 29-year-old Jericho Mercredi-Cardinal with aggravated assault.

Mercredi-Cardinal remains in custody and will be before a judge in Fort McMurray on November 12.
