2nd Annual Hospital Bed Races Raise $48,000

The 2nd annual Hospital Bed Races raised around $48,000 for the Northern Lights Health Foundation.

On Saturday, around 300 people were at the Snye to take in the event – which featured 12 participating teams competing for the Golden Bedpan Trophy.

For the second straight year, the ‘Finning Flyers’ came away as champions.

Director of the Health Foundation Board of Directors Brent Janke says it was a fun event for all in attendance.

“The Foundation team introduced a brand new event to the community last year, it was so well received they had to do it again. The level of commitment from this community; our sponsors, volunteers, and all the participants who raised pledges for local healthcare and the donors, who pledged them, is unbelievable. This truly was a fun event that brought the community together, at all levels, for a common cause.”

The Health Foundation says it was quite the spectacle of attire – with participating teams donning themed costumes and hyping up the crowd prior to the race.

Executive Director of the Health Foundation Cindy Amerongen says the team’s donations will go a long way.

“Healthcare is for everyone. Participants race for fun and raise for health. They did a great job fundraising and we all had a blast and hope to do it all again next year.”

Last year’s event raised over $53,000.

Money raised from the races will go back into the Health Foundation.
