Oil Barons Open 2019/2020 With Split Weekend

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons came out of their home-opening weekend even-Steven.

The MOB opened up the campaign with a 5-3 win over the Grande Prairie Storm on Friday.

It was a different story for the Barons on Saturday however, as they fell to the Storm by a score of 4-1.

Head Coach Bob Beatty tells Mix News despite Saturday’s loss – it was an overall positive start to the season.

“Obviously it was a great start, Friday night we played with lots of intensity and adrenaline. The big crowd obviously helped significantly.”

Beatty says while he was pleased with Friday’s effort – Saturday left a lot to be desired.

He feels the boys just couldn’t seem to get things going in part two of the doubleheader.

“They were a lot better Saturday night and we had a little difficulty getting our intensity level up to where it was during the home opener. It’s understandable but it’s not excusable.”

Yesterday, the Barons also announced an early-season trade.

Fort McMurray has traded forward Nathan Carl to the Swan Valley Stampeders of the MJHL for future considerations.

Meanwhile, the MOB hit the road for the first time on Friday – as they head to Spruce Grove to face the Saints.
