40-Day Federal Election Campaign Underway

We head to the polls next month as the writ has been dropped – officially triggering Canada’s 43rd general election.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asked Governor General Julie Payette to dissolve Parliament Wednesday morning, which followed by a general election call.

So far, there are three people running to become the MP for the riding of Fort McMurray-Cold Lake.

Conservative Incumbent David Yurdiga has represented the region in Ottawa since winning a by-election in 2014 to fill the position left vacant by Brian Jean. In the 2015 federal election, Yurdiga garnered about 60 per cent of the votes.

Looking to take his position, is Liberal Party candidate Maggie Farrington and Matthew Barrett, representing the People’s Party of Canada.

Election day is October 21.
