The province is looking to take the federal government to court in an attempt to stop Bill C-69.

Premier Jason Kenney announced on Tuesday at the Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference in Fort McMurray they’re moving forward with a constitutional challenge through the Alberta Court of Appeal.

The Bill, which was proclaimed into law last month, gives the federal government the power to oversee, review, and decide future infrastructure projects.

Kenney tells Mix News this is a clear violation of Alberta’s right to regulate our oil and gas.

“We’re not just going to roll over and accept the federal government walking into our living room and trying to take over our house – this is our constitutional authority, we will defend it.”

C-69, which is also being called the ‘no more pipeline bill,’ has been facing challenges from the provincial government since it was first announced. The Senate of Canada proposed 126 amendments, however, the majority were rejected.

Kenney says this is just another hurdle stopping us from accessing global markets.

“In a world where there is growing global demand for oil and gas, either we are part of that supplying that demand or we abandon global energy markets to some of the world’s worst regimes.”

He believes Bill C-69 will also lead the Trans Mountain expansion project down the same road as the Northern Gateway and Energy East pipelines.
