Over $32,000 Raised Through 19th Annual Rubber Duck Race

The 19th annual Rubber Duck Race was the most successful ever.

The event, organized by Big Brothers Big Sisters Wood Buffalo, took place this past weekend – with over a thousand rubber ducks racing down the Snye.

Community Engagement and Events Coordinator Shawna Pelley tells Mix News with all those in attendance – they managed to break their fundraising goal.

“Turnout was really great this year, we had a nice addition in DJ Q-Pid. Our goal this year was to raise $30,000 and we actually exceeded that, making $32,265, before expenses.”

Pelley notes the added addition of RibFest made it the biggest Rubber Duck Race in the history of the event.

She says the funds will go towards supporting youth and community programs at Big Brother Big Sister Wood Buffalo.

“We have different programs, in-school programs and community programs. So, the money will go towards supporting our Child & Youth mentoring programs that we offer free to the community.”

Pelley expects the event to be even bigger in 2020 when the race celebrates its 20th anniversary.
