Building Trades Of Alberta Announce $750,000 Donation To Four Local Organizations

Four local organizations are receiving a big hand to help continue the work they do for the RMWB.

Earlier today, Building Trades of Alberta announced a $750,000 donation to those helping the community recover from the impact of the Horse River Wildfire.

The organizations include the Local Hero Foundation, the Wood Buffalo Food Bank, the Centre of Hope and the Fort McMurray Salvation Army.

BTA Executive Director Terry Parker tells Mix News they wanted to help those who continue to make a difference in Fort McMurray.

“A lot of members across Canada were asking, how can we help or what can we do? And everyone has at one point or another been impacted by the economy and the work that’s happened here in Fort McMurray, so, they all wanted to give back in some way.”

The donation stems from the BTA’s “Rebuild McMurray” Hope Fund – which saw donations from members across the country.

$300,000 is going to both the Centre of Hope and Salvation Army, with $100,000 to the Food Bank and $50,000 to the Local Hero Foundation – Phoenix Heli-Flight.

Major Stephen Hibbs of the Salvation Army says the funding will help them continue a number of services and programs.

“This helps us a lot, because as it was stated, since the fire – things have not rebounded to the way it used to be. So, we are certainly appreciative of this $300,000 gift and it will absolutely touch base with every department that we have.”

Hibbs adds going forward, this also helps them continue the work they do for those in need.
