The amount of rain we received over the weekend was certainly nothing to sneeze at.
That’s according to Environment Canada, who said on Thursday that we could expect anywhere from 40 to 60 millimeters of rain from Friday to Sunday.
Meteorologist Sarah Hoffman tells Mix News in total, we wound up receiving around 45mm of rainfall over the last three days.
“Especially when you compare to the 30-year average (1981-2010) for Fort McMurray which is 57.1mm for August. In this one event, you received nearly what you would get in an entire month.”
Hoffman adds since the rainfall spanned multiple days – it didn’t quite exceed the record for a single day.
She notes the record for the most rain in a single day for August 16 – was set 50 years ago.
“The record amount of rainfall for August 16 occurred in 1969 and that’s when 55.1mm of rain fell in one day.”
