Local Youth Soccer Association Readies For U13 Provincials

It’s going to be a busy week for soccer in the community.

The Fort McMurray Youth Soccer Association is hosting both the boys and girls U13 Provincial Championship this weekend.

Coach for the boys Fury program, Blaine Legaree tells Mix News it’s an exciting opportunity for the local growth of the sport.

“It’s been a while since our last tournament, so, just want to make sure our boys remember where they’re supposed to be on the field, what the triggers are and like I said, just everyone getting ready to give their best and hopefully peak on Saturday. That’s the goal at least.”

The tournament kicks off on Friday and runs through Sunday.

Coach for the Girls’ Fury program Tiffany Fontaine feels there’s a special atmosphere surrounding a tournament of this magnitude.

“Sometimes, parents want to see their girls play against other girls. So, I think when you go out and see it live like any sport, there’s an intensity it brings and hopefully it does motivate more people to try the sport of soccer.”

Not only does the tournament help grow the sport locally, but as Legaree points out – it’s a chance to showcase all of our great soccer facilities in Fort McMurray.

“It’s a chance to show off our field and our stuff and also, like I said, having it at that provincial level. All the hype is going to be there, and we are really looking forward to it.”

Games for both programs will take place at either at Syncrude Athletic Park or at Holy Trinity High School.
